What Fishing Tackle Do You Really Need?
By M James

Whether you're new to fishing, or a seasoned angler, you're bound to wonder if you've got all the fishing tackle you really need, and if you're missing out on anything that could make fishing even more enjoyable.

Here's the fishing tackle you really need.

1. You'll want a good fishing rod. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, as long as it's comfortable and right for you. You'll want to make sure that it's easy to use even when your hands are cold and wet.

2. The type of reel you use will depend on the sort of fishing you do. The right reel for you will depend on what you catch, and whether you fish from the bank, or in the water itself.

3. Your fishing lines will need to strong enough for the sort of fish you're hoping to catch. You won't want to risk your fly lines snapping if you manage to hook a bigger fish than normal. Perhaps you'll have different fishing rods, reels and fly lines depending on where you're going fishing.

4. Having the right bait is probably more important than having a good fishing rod. Through trial and error, and finding out more about the sort of fish you catch, you'll be able to use the right sort of bait. You might also want to have a go at fly tying, and seeing if you can create your own bait that will prove to be irresistible to fish. Why not see what other anglers are using too?

5. A good quality fishing bag will help you to keep all of your fishing tackle together and safe. You'll also be less likely to forget something you need too. Why not choose a bag big enough so that it holds everything you need, and that you can still find things easily too?

6. Using a fishing box for your smaller fishing accessories and fishing bait will mean that you're much less likely to lose things you need. You can also have a range of bait with you, and can easily choose the right one.

7. If you want to see if you can create your own bait, then why not have a go at fly tying? You'll be able to create unique flies, and learn more about what sort of things attract which fish. As well as learning more about the fish, you might even be able to save money too.

8. Waders are essential if you're going to be standing in the water, rather than fishing from the bank. You'll need a comfortable pair that are durable and fit you well, you'll also need to make sure that they will keep your feet and legs warm enough so that you can enjoy a days fishing in the river.

9. Your fishing boots need to be grippy, and offer plenty of ankle support as you never know what sort of uneven ground you'll be walking over. You'll need to be able to stay on your feet all day, so comfort is important too. Why not choose a pair of waterproof boots so that your feet will stay dry all day long?

10. Whatever item of tackle you purchase, you'll want to make sure that you're getting value for money. It doesn't matter whether you're choosing a new fishing rod, fly lines or clothing, it's important to get it right first time to avoid expensive and time consuming mistakes.

Now you know more about what sort of things you need, have you got all the fishing tackle you need?
